Herbal Medicine from the Alps
Authore: Ed Wohlfahrt
There is an herb for each ailment. That’s what I learned on my guided herb walk, and I got to know the various usages for these local wild herbs. Those underway with a person as experienced with herbs as Birgit from the Nockberge National Park, will begin to look at the plants on the roadside with different eyes.
So now I know, amongst many other things, that wild herbs love the variety of crystalline rocks in the Nockberg region, that the healing power of most plants is the strongest between the big and small “women’s day” (August 15th – September 8th) and that it’s best to collect herbs in the morning and that one can find Arnica, Euphrasy, Lamb’s Foot, Nettle, Gentian, Lady’s Mantle, Blueberry, St. John’s Wort, Red Clover, Yarrow, Thyme, Juniper and many others here. And because I would like to share my newly acquired knowledge, I will show you some wild herbs in their own mini-portrait:

Its leaves are known for their burning power, and as one of the oldest healing plants, it is also known for its versatile healing power. The nettle has blood cleansing and purifying properties. It offers a lot of vitamin C, plant hormones and minerals. That’s why it has been known as a stimulating tonic for hundreds of years, which can be used to combat chronic fatigue and physical inefficiency. More to come…
