Game, Set and Match in Bad Kleinkirchheim

Author: Ed Wohlfahrt

You’ll want to yell “Let the games begin!” when you arrive at the Tennis Park “Zur Einkehr” in Bad Kleinkirchheim. Located in the center of town, the courts offer everything the tennis heart could possibly desire. But that was not always the case, at least not in terms of the surface. A couple of days ago the surface got a new lease on life. Winter had left obvious traces and the beginning vegetation of the alpine spring came to life and got a deep rooted hold, so to speak. And the fact that grass, roots and tennis courts don’t mix well is no real secret!

So somebody got busy. And that somebody is nobody less than the president of the Tennis Club of Bad Kleinkirchheim and Patergassen, Jakob Obergriessnig. As you know, we’ve already mentioned in the Bad Kleinkirchheim blog that Jakob also takes care of the local ice rink. His heart, I think we can say that here, really beats for tennis though. There would be no other way to explain why he agrees to wake 13 of the 23 playable tennis courts in Bad Kleinkirchheim out of winter hibernation himself each and every year. This includes pounding in the lines, getting rid of weeds, repairing frost damage, rolling the courts (several times) and finally spreading tennis sand. Oh about 1 ton per court. So, before he can even sweat with a racket in his hand, he does so with a shovel and roller.

The effort is worth it. It gets us tennis courts that are in tip-top shape and are maintained that way the whole season. Jakob promises that and more. And each year he forgets the trouble and effort when guests from near and far flock to the “Tennis Park Zur Einkehr” or to the Tennis Center. There are a total of 11 outdoor courts and 3 indoor courts. With 9 more, we have a total of 23 courts which make Bad Kleinkirchheim Carinthia’s tennis Mecca. Nowhere else from Heiligenblut to Lavamünd are there as many playable courts as here.

By the way, there’s tennis all-inclusive in Bad Kleinkirchheim in Trattlerhof, Hotel Die Post, Hotel Kärntnerhof, Hotel St. Oswald, Hotel Kirchheimhof, Hotel Prägnant and Hotel Eschenhof. Guests in apartments and in all other hotels can find perfect conditions in the Tennis Park Zur Einkehr and in the Tennis Center of Bad Kleinkirchheim. And you’ll also find Jakob Obergriessnig, of course, who offers training even for absolute beginners.
