Get to know everything about the Nockberge Mountains with your entire family. You are cordially invited to experience the history of the alpine cattle drive, courtyard festivals and the Nockalm street festival.
Life on a farm is exciting and always filled with variety. In the Nockberge Mountains you’ll find numerous festivals to keep you busy. Your little ones can discover the meadows and farms of the region. Take a tractor ride on farms, pet a few goats, sheep and calves, or even milk a cow! There is always something to do and experience on a farm. You and your children will love your holidays in Austria!
Heidi, Heidi – your home is the mountains
During the Heidi festival on the Heidi meadow, you’ll experience a happy celebration with Heidi and her friends. Always on the first Sunday in July, Heidi’s fans meet on the meadow for a wonderful family celebration. Children receive free admission on the first day of the festival.
Children and family Speik festival in the Nockberge Mountains
During the family-orientated Speik festival your children will meet the small star of the Nockberge Mountains. The Speik plant only grows in the Nockberge Mountains and is known for its soothing and healing properties. During the annual Speik Festival there are:
- Adventure stations
- Creative and do-it-yourself stations using materials from the Nockberge National Park
- Make-up corner
- Everything is about Speik/Alpine Valerian
- Music and entertainment
- Culinary delights and of course tons of Speik/ Alpine Valerian

Cattle drive in the Nockberge Mountains
On this one day the cows are especially well groomed. Those who would like to help with dressing up the cows and walk down into the valley with them can do so, but will need to be in the meadow during the morning. The exact location and time is something you’ll need to find out from a local Bad Kleinkirchheimer or at your holiday accommodation. The cattle drive usually happens during the first week in September.
